Spravato® is an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression, and Lake Forest patients can receive it at our Newport Beach office, about 20 minutes away. Each session takes place in the office under the supervision of our team and board-certified psychiatrist Hadi Estakhri, MD.
Spravato® contains esketamine, a form of ketamine that acts on the brain’s glutamate system rather than serotonin. It is approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression and is used in a structured, in-office program. Because of safety rules, it is never taken at home. Lake Forest patients come to our office for every dose and stay with us while the effects wear off.

In a private room, you use the nasal spray device under the direct supervision of our clinical staff.
You rest for at least two hours afterward while we check your blood pressure and how you feel.
You should not drive until the next day after a full night of sleep, so arrange a ride home from every session.

No. Spravato is only given in a certified healthcare setting, and you stay for at least two hours of observation after each dose.
Spravato is not used in people with certain blood vessel conditions, such as an aneurysm or a history of bleeding in the brain, or with an allergy to esketamine or ketamine. Dr. Estakhri will review your full history before treatment.
Treatment usually starts with two sessions a week for four weeks, then weekly sessions for weeks five to eight. After that, sessions are weekly or every other week for as long as they help.
